Colorspace, created by Sosolimited (SOSO), is an interactive sculpture located in the mezzanine of 200 Clarendon Street Boson that translates text messages into breathtaking animations of colored light.
Altec Plastics was commissioned by SOSO to cut, polish, machine, and frost custom acrylic rods that display a breathtaking array of computer controlled colors. Altec helped SOSO select and test a range of materials and finishes. The final material was then fabricated into 92 1.5-inch diameter rods in a variety of lengths that were installed by SOSO to create this unique and fun interactive sculpture.
As visitors enter the space, they pass a long marble wall of suspended light pendants. Anyone with a mobile device can send a text message to the number printed on the wall. The sculpture replies with a sparkling wash of light that sweeps across the wall, illuminating the space with new colors based upon the message sent.
